THE WEB JOURNAL OF JOHN RAY

2009 Graphic Novel Wishlist

Posted in Comics by J.R. Bumanglag on January 2, 2009

Opening the new year, I’m immersing myself to a whole new range of comic book and graphic novel goodness. Back in early 2008, I introduced myself to the Marvel Universe through the first issue of Leinil Yu’s run on Secret Invasion. After that came Alex Ross’ Justice Volume 1. Initially, I was interested in these titles because of the artstyle and story-telling techniques. But as time moved on, I learned to appreciate the kind of approach American comics seem to have. I am, in many ways, a manga enthusiast first and foremost having read Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Deathnote, Akira, Vagabond and a lot more. I enjoyed reading all of them, citing them as very influential for me as an artist and a reader. So this 2009, I’m opening my doors to a whole new world!
